Joss was instrumental in my preparation for Primate. From the early stages of training, he helped bring my physicality up to the level the character demanded, developing a wide variety of skills and physical intensity that we could then use as raw material to build Ben alongside Alex Reynolds and director Johannes Roberts.

What made Joss particularly valuable was his understanding of what a performer needs when working in a suit, with animatronics, in creature conditions. He could communicate across departments, pass on his knowledge to different teams, and find ways to cater for my specific needs while also serving what the production required. That balance is rare.
It started from the audition process. The physical tasks he set were genuinely indicative of the work ahead, which meant I arrived at prep already oriented and supported. That support came both from his knowledge of creature performance and from the fact that he’s a performer himself, and that comes through in how he works and how he communicates with everyone around him.

Alexandra Reynolds
Choteographer & Movement Director
“Joss has been an invaluable core member of a group of movement specialists who continues to inspire, create and shape new frontiers in movement led character work.
I worked closely with Joss Carter on the film Primate, where his contribution was quite simply indispensable. Joss brought a rare and specialist expertise in primate movement that is almost impossible to find at this level.
He trained the stunt double with precision and care, and worked directly and sensitively with Miguel Torres, who played the killer chimpanzee at the heart of the film. The physical authenticity he brought to that performance was central to what made it believable and compelling on screen.
At a critical point in the production, when my own commitments took me elsewhere, Joss stepped up and led a week-long workshop entirely independently — with the confidence, professionalism, and creative authority of someone who needed no oversight. He also took on the casting process, bringing the same rigour and instinct to that role as he did to everything else.
Joss is the kind of collaborator you trust completely. I would recommend him without hesitation to any production requiring specialist movement expertise, and I look forward to working with him again.”

"Joss jumped enthusiastically into throwing himself to the ground repeatedly, covered in dirt and fake blood. He did this with passion. Joss is a friendly, amiable and enthusiastic actor, always punctual, helpful and willing. I wouldn’t hesitate to employ him on any future productions as he gives his entirety to the production.
I greatly enjoyed his company."

Cliff Wallace
"Sitting still for many hours, of prosthetic makeup and suit application at odd hours of the day and night is no easy job. Remaining cheerful, focussed and professional is even harder. Giving a committed performance after so long in the makeup chair whilst respecting the makeup is harder still.
Joss Carter is great at all of that."

A very patient dedicated and consummate professional. That’s always a bonus when someone is enduring a prosthetic makeup.”

"We stuck Joss in full body creature prosthetics whilst filming night shoots in Manchester in the middle of winter. The action required was both mentally and physically very challenging, but even in the harshest of conditions, Joss nailed his performance perfectly every time. Scary to watch!!”
